Moens Butchers Gallery
Moens are a high-class butchers located in the heart of Clapham. The shop is very well known locally and extremely busy. The renovation of the shop floor presented three main problems.
1 - Opening Hours.
The shop is open 6 days a week. Two days were needed to complete the work, due to the drying time of the seal. Closing the shop for a day would be costly, so the work was undertaken over the Easter Bank Holiday, when the shop was closed for an extra day.
2 - Dust Control.
Moens fresh meat is displayed in open refrigeration units and the floor is surrounded by high shelves full of groceries. Rather than empty them, we sealed the face of the shelves with sheets of polythene and masking tape. We also sealed the rest of the shop, from the ceiling to the top of the display fridges, in the same way. Finally, we use powerful vacuums on all our sanding tools. As a result, the shop did not need cleaning once we had finished the work.
3 - Traffic.
Moens is an extremely busy shop, serving several hundred customers every day. The floor needed sealing with a product capable of coping with this level of traffic. Great care was taken with the final sanding stages to ensure the strongest possible bond between wood and seal. The clear satin finish resulted in a floor that looked new again.
